The refrigerant gas, laden with aerosolized oil from the compressor, enters the oil separator. As it journeys through the inlet and outlet metal webs and contacts the shell wall, the oil within the gas is effectively intercepted. The oil particles collide and amalgamate into larger, heavier droplets. Ultimately, these large droplets strike the separator wall, culminating in the final separation process. The isolated droplets descend to the separator's bottom, where a float-operated needle valve efficiently returns the oil to the crankcase or oil reservoir.
